Kildare councillors vote 22–11 against reviewing Naas data-centre zoning

Kildare County Council voted 11 in favour and 22 against, with 7 abstentions, on motions to review the 'P – Data Centre' zoning of land at Jigginstown/Maudlins, Naas, and to vary the county development plan, the Kildare Nationalist reported. The vote was on 28 September. Councillors who opposed the motions said the zoning had been through public consultation and that objections belong in the planning process. Microsoft said in 2023 it was at an early stage of planning a campus on the land; no planning application has been submitted, the paper said.

Why it matters. Data-centre-only zoning near Naas stays in place, so the fight moves to any planning application on the site.
